I gotta get out of this place...

After six and a half years (eight if you count the bit before I went to Scotland) I'm leaving my job.

The early days of rantspace was indeed me bitching about work, but I laid off that when people from work started to read it... I'm not going to start bashing <insert current place of employment here> now... but suffice to say, I've had enough and have got a new job.

I'll be working as a Unix System Administrator for a large firm, looking after 650 odd servers.

It is indeed going to be a huge step up for me in terms of a working environment, and also a scary change as I've just been here for so long.

My last day is the 12th of August... so it isn't too long to go now. I met Sparker Trauma (LumpyTraumaOverlord) and Sambo at my current job and droidy and dk the elder will continue to work there... so I'm sure I'll still hear what goes on there and even how much I am missed...

Yep - end of an era. Glad you're making for a change tho.
Indeed is a new world with you not working at 'the place of some name', and you're not the only one making radical life changes..

*grin

Well from one rat to another, well done. It's nice you hung on for so long, but I'm glad you finally let go and let the good ship sail off (or is that stumble off) without you.

And from me too, good on you for getting out. Some people never leave, and I feared you may be one of them. Career and sanity wise, its a good move.

We've been working in different corners of 'The Empire' for a while now, but it just won't seem right not seeing you there when (if) I visit / return. The times we worked together are fond memories for me.

Maybe you could try to keep this blog a secret from your new employer? There's got to be good material in looking after 650 servers...

Yo!

I heard on the grapevine you'd shifted gears. Great to hear of the progression - like Krusty I think it will be good for you - career and sanity wise.

Good luck dude!

Pete.
